Each line is configured from actual material data, required fractions, throughput and available installation space.

Sand Materials and Screening Applications

Screening requirements vary by material, particle size, target fractions and capacity. Sanyuantang configures screening equipment for quartz sand, frac sand, silica sand and other dry granular materials according to the required grading and production conditions.

Quartz Sand Screening

Quartz Sand Screening

Quartz sand is commonly graded into several particle sizes, such as 26–40 mesh (0.5–1 mm), 16–26 mesh (1–2 mm), 8–16 mesh (2–4 mm) and coarser fractions up to 2–4 mesh (8–16 mm).

Multi-deck gyratory screens can produce several grades in one continuous process. Screen size, deck arrangement and mesh openings are configured to the feed distribution, required fractions and production capacity.

Frac Sand Screening

Frac sand grading requires tight control of the finished particle-size distribution. 20/40 mesh (0.42–0.85 mm) and 40/70 mesh (0.212–0.42 mm) are widely used proppant sizes for oil and gas fracturing applications.

Gyratory screening provides continuous separation of these target grades while controlling oversize and fines. Multi-deck configurations can also handle multiple size cuts within the same screening line, depending on the required product specification and throughput.

Frac Sand Screening
Silica, Ceramic and Foundry Sand Screening

Silica, Ceramic and Foundry Sand Screening

Silica, ceramic and foundry sands require controlled particle-size grading with low cross-contamination between finished fractions. For dry materials, multi-deck gyratory screens can handle fine classification down to 140 mesh (about 0.106 mm) while producing several grades in one continuous process. Gentle material movement and screen-cleaning devices also help reduce particle damage and mesh blinding during continuous operation.

Ceramic sand screening focuses on controlled grading while limiting particle damage during handling and separation. The low-frequency gyratory motion provides a relatively gentle screening process and can be configured with multiple decks for different finished sizes. For production lines, the screener can be connected with feeders, bucket elevators, conveyors and storage systems for continuous material handling.

From Screening Equipment to a Complete Production Line

A sand screening line is configured as one material-handling process. Sanyuantang combines feeding, bucket elevating, gyratory screening, conveying, storage and dust collection according to the feed size, required fractions, throughput and site layout. For dry sand applications, our existing systems cover quartz sand, frac sand, silica sand and ceramic sand, with line capacities of 10–30 t/h.

Equipment sizing starts from the actual feed distribution. In a quartz sand project in Hunan, we supplied three 2040 gyratory screeners for a 36 t/h feed rate. The screens used a 10-layer arrangement, with 30, 50, 80 and 120 mesh sections for multi-size grading. This project data is used in our line design to match screening area, deck arrangement, conveying capacity and discharge layout.

Process Flow:

Feeding → Elevating → Multi-Deck Screening → Classification → Conveying → Storage / Packing

Sand Screening Production Line FAQs

What is a sand screening production line?

A sand screening production line separates raw sand into specified particle-size fractions. Depending on the process and site layout, it may include feeding, elevating, screening, conveying, storage and dust-control equipment.

What types of sand can be processed with a gyratory screen?

Gyratory screens can process quartz sand, silica sand, frac sand, ceramic sand, foundry sand and other dry granular materials. Selection depends on material properties, particle distribution and capacity.

Why are gyratory screens used for quartz sand screening?

Gyratory screens provide high-capacity, multi-deck classification with controlled material movement across the screen surface. For quartz sand, they can separate several particle-size fractions in one pass while limiting mesh blinding and particle damage. This makes them suitable for continuous production where consistent grading and stable throughput are required.

Can one gyratory screen separate multiple particle sizes?

Yes. A multi-deck gyratory screen can separate several sand grades in one pass. For quartz sand, common fractions may include 2–4 mesh (8–16 mm), 4–8 mesh (4–8 mm), 8–16 mesh (2–4 mm), 16–26 mesh (1–2 mm), and 26–40 mesh (0.5–1 mm), with finer screening available as required.

What equipment is included in a sand screening production line?

A line can include feeders, bucket elevators, gyratory screeners, belt conveyors, storage silos and dust-control equipment. The exact scope depends on capacity, process and site conditions.

How do you select a screening system for frac sand?

Selection starts with the specified product ranges, feed distribution and required throughput. Engineers then match screen area, mesh openings, deck arrangement, feeding and conveying to those conditions.

What information is required to configure a sand screening project?

Provide the material, feed particle size, target sizes or mesh, throughput, bulk density, moisture, number of finished fractions and available installation space or plant drawing.

Can Sanyuantang supply a complete screening and conveying system?

Yes. The scope can cover a standalone screening machine or an integrated line with feeding, elevating, conveying, storage and dust-control sections, subject to confirmed project requirements.
