Project Overview
We undertook a large garnet abrasive classification project for an abrasive material manufacturer. Garnet serves widely as abrasive media for waterjet cutting, sandblasting and surface treatment, which requires strict multi-grade particle separation. The client needed a full garnet screening production line with high continuous throughput and stable grading accuracy.
After material testing and process layout simulation, we selected Sanyuantang tumbler screen as the core separation equipment. This project deployed 20 sets of tumbler screens. Each tumbler screen reaches 60 TPH processing capacity. We configured multi-layer screen decks to classify garnet into standard commercial mesh sizes: 12 mesh, 24 mesh, 36 mesh, 60 mesh, 80 mesh and 120 mesh. The gentle tumbler screening motion reduces particle crushing and preserves garnet grain integrity.
Customer Screening Challenges & Requirements
The client required a high capacity garnet classifier to sort raw garnet ore into multiple finished abrasive grades. Garnet is hard and sharp; high-speed vibration from traditional vibrating screens easily breaks particles and generates excess fine powder, lowering product value. The system must run continuously, maintain consistent particle grading, reduce screen wear, and fit within their multi-level steel workshop platform layout.
Our Custom Solution Design
Our engineering team analyzed garnet hardness, bulk density and particle characteristics before finalizing the solution. We chose Sanyuantang tumbler screen for this garnet screening production line. Unlike conventional vibrating screens, tumbler screen adopts low-speed reciprocating gyratory movement. It keeps garnet grains intact and minimizes over-grinding.
We arranged all 20 tumbler screens in an orderly array on the client’s heavy steel workshop platform, as shown in the site photo. This centralized layout simplifies raw material feeding and finished product conveying, making routine inspection and maintenance convenient. Each unit carries multi-layer screens to separate garnet into 12/24/36/60/80/120 mesh fractions in a single pass.

Project Benefits
Protect Garnet Particle Integrity
The tumbler screen operates with gentle, low-force movement. It avoids sharp particle collision that occurs on regular vibrating screens. Less garnet crushing reduces unwanted fines and improves the yield of premium abrasive grades.
High Throughput with Stable Classification
Each Sanyuantang tumbler screener delivers steady 60TPH output. Multi-layer decks separate multiple garnet sizes at once. This garnet screening production line handles large feed volumes while keeping grading precision consistent for waterjet and blasting customers.
Extended Screen Service Life
Garnet is highly abrasive. The low relative speed between garnet grains and screen mesh slows abrasion, cutting screen replacement frequency and lowering long-term operating cost for the plant.
Compact Platform Layout
20 units are neatly installed on the factory steel platform. This layout saves floor area and streamlines material transfer between upstream crushing and downstream packaging sections.
Pre-Shipment Inspection & Commissioning
Before delivery, we performed complete factory inspection for every tumbler screen: checking screen frame strength, mesh tension, sealing and transmission system, plus full no-load running tests. After equipment arrived on site, our engineers guided installation, alignment and commissioning. We adjusted stroke and rotation parameters to match the client’s garnet feed condition.
Project Outcome
The garnet screening production line with 20 Sanyuantang tumbler screens runs continuously after startup. The system successfully classifies garnet into the target mesh grades. Particle breakage is kept at a low level, and finished garnet abrasive meets the quality requirements of waterjet cutting and sandblasting markets. The client benefits from stable high throughput and reduced maintenance downtime.
Note: Actual throughput and grading result are affected by raw garnet feed size, moisture and feeding consistency. Material testing is recommended for custom tumbler screen sizing.
